I have a very special podcast for you this week! I have never done this before, but I thought it would be so much fun to let one of my coaches take the reins on an entire podcast episode!
And you’re going to love it!
Today’s episode is with Coach Vanessa Burgess! Vanessa has been with the Sculpted Vegan team for several years, and is one of my most experienced coaches! She has done nearly every program I’ve ever created, and has learned so much in the years she’s been with the team. When she first started her SV journey in January 2019, she was breastfeeding 3 babies, working 4 jobs from home, and doing the original 4-Week Shred all at the same time. She has consistently stayed the course, listened to feedback, implemented things she was terrified of (like eating thousands of calories a day to build muscle), and has reaped the rewards ten-fold.
So I sent her into the streets (a.k.a Butt Camp FB group) to ask the competitors what they’re dying to know about all things mindset, health, and fitness so she could answer them live on the podcast!
In this episode, Vanessa gets reeeeal! She actually had an epiphany in real-time when discussing some tips on crushing self-sabotage. She dug into how she personally rewires her brain to send her excuses packin’, tips on building muscle when you don’t have access to the big fancy gym equipment, the truth behind fat gain if you eat before bed, and so much more!
Below are today’s questions:
1:21 Can you please help us with some self-sabotage strategies, like how to overcome self-sabotage?
33:45 What is your favorite quad exercise (small home gym with some machines, but not all the fancy guys)?
35:25 Do you push to failure on each body part in every set? Or do you keep 1-2 reps in reserve at certain times?
38:00 How much of an importance does food timing play?
40:57 Best tips for staying motivated when you’re not seeing physical changes?
51:45 Can you debunk the myth around not eating before bed?
I know you will absolutely love this episode! Happy listening!
Love Kim xo

Thank you SOOOO much for this!! The reiterating of discipline vs motivation was eye opening. I needed to hear and UNDERSTAND learning to discipline myself….it is my nemesis. I have been fit, I was a clean eater, a gym rat, I loved that life. The craving cake and ice cream stopped, I could walk away from pastries in the office so easily! BUT I chose that. I was going through a bad break up and it gave me structure, something to concetrate on.

Thank you coach Vanessa. I was self sabotaging my self and this podcast really brought it into perspective. At times I’ve eaten something I know I shouldn’t and validate to myself why it’s ok. Also great tip that it’s ok to eat before be as long as not going over macros. I love that you are the same as me a non cooker. This has probably been my biggest stress. So thank for how you just pick your basic food within macros and eat.I can eat same things over and over as long as it’s quick. 💞

Coach Vanessa was talking to me! Yes, this is me...Self Sabotage has been the reason I have not accomplished my health goals! I am so ready! She is so right about not committing to something new because of the responsibilities that come with achieving my goal. I have to work through the uncomfortable feeling and just committ! The 3 simple steps.. 1. What are my Triggers? What unwanted behaviors do I want to change? I will work on this one 1st. So glad I listened to this!! Thank you!!

Self sabotage has been my unwanted lifelong friend that keeps hanging around. When VB said “afraid of being successful” triggered moments when I was close to achieving goals but I sabotaged myself instead. “Who does that?” Why do I do this? I had a weird thought - I don’t want to be seen. I don’t know how to respond when complemented. Then there’s the negative comments, I’ve learned from those that haven’t achieved their goals. Terrible comments like she vomits- absolutely not, or she’s had surgery - can’t afford that. So I retreated to a block of chocolate. Then I put on too much weight and the opposite nasties appear. I’m sick of letting others control my life. Purchasing a program isn’t going to instantly achieve my goals either. I need to discipline myself with daily goals and not wait for motivation. Those words are what I needed to hear VB, thank you. That is my first sticky note. This out of control roller coaster is about to alight. I stalled when I couldn’t get the seitan right - Butt Camp 2.0. So I need to swap it for now until I can make it. I find I hit a wall and that’s it I can’t continue. It’s exactly like the angel singing, then the devil enters the room - eat some chocolate now while you read the plan again and start fresh next Monday. Use this week to reprep, set new goals, blah blah blab and just like that Netflix is on and I’m eating takeaway surrounding by a plan that I’m just looking at. Yet I hate this part of me. I know I can do this and once started I’m good. The next phase once almost reaching my goals will be pushing past whet keeps holding me back. Thank you. This was one of the best health and fitness podcasts to date. The other thing I better understand as a novice with muscle building is that micro tears build muscle and how to properly work sets. 🏋🏻♀️❤️ P.S breakfast prep for week 1 achieved ✅
